This project was the full refurbishment of a Victorian house located in Portobello, Dublin. This client was exceptionally in tune with Wabi Sabi design concept and had many amazing antiques as an essential component of the design. The kitchen is presented as free-standing furniture with a tall sideboard that accentuates the height of the room and a central cube island for food prep. While the prep sink and cooking areas are in immediate view, the remaining work-horse components of the kitchen (large fridge, ovens, cleaning station) are a step away and concealed behind a tall wall while maintaining unobstructed views of the Victorian windows and streetscape.
All the fitted furniture throughout is made by Wabi Sabi with a continuity of joinery detail, material selection and material finishes.
Valchromat doors with white oil finish, mitred brass worktops and a simple large tile splashback provide a quiet restrained palette of materials to this kitchen.
